Masters, Christopher Wayne (Journalist, b.1948)

Collection relating to Christopher Wayne Masters, journalist in Afghanistan during 2010-2011. Chris Masters was imbedded with the ADF in Afghanistan on two occasions – first in 2010 as a journalist for ABC’s Four Corners program; the second with Channel 10 in 2011, during which he became the first Australian journalist embedded with Australian Special Forces. Masters took extensive notes of his observations on both visits.

Collection consists two green covered Department of Defence field message notebooks, one dated 2010 when Masters was working with the ABC, the other dated 2011 when Masters was working with Channel 10. Inside each are notes including from interviews with soldiers, scripts for reports, contact details for various soldiers and media agencies, and other general research notes. Each are heavily marked with post-it notes of various colours.

Also included is an 'Afghanistan Notebook' produced by the Joint Operations Intelligence Centre Australia and contains general details on Afghanistan such as different religions, practices, common phrases, and diplomatic advice.
