Collection relating to the Second World War service of 6513 Able Seaman Thomas Edward Mooney, Royal Australian Navy and prisoner of war. Collection consists of a six page typed account titled 'Experiences of a Prisoner of War in Japanese Hands' which describes HMAS Perth's action during February 1942 around Java and eventual sinking. Mooney was picked up by a Japanese destroyer and taken to Serang before being moved to No 10 Bicycle Camp. In October he was moved to Changi in Singapore, then in January 1943 to Burma where he was interned at 80 Kilo Camp and 100 Kilo Camp.
