Hundstage: Paris
Description
The cover imagery of 'Hundstage: Paris' is a grainy black and white photograph of German troops moving swiftly on foot through Belgium. Road signs in the background show that they are closing in on the French Border. The title of the Time Life book is Blitzkrieg (lightning war). The book details this powerful new military tactic calculated to create psychological shock and result in the disorganisation of enemy forces. The paint overlaying the image enhances this idea of anarchy and chaos. Coagulated paint explodes across the image reminiscent of bomb blasts as the soldiers run through scenes littered with debris. This work enhances the War Memorial’s holdings of works depicting non-allied exeriences of the Second World War.
