Description

Trent Parke discusses the making of his photographic series 'World War One Avenue of Honour', acquired by the Australian War Memorial in 2016. The interview includes reference to Parke’s broader photographic practice and biography, his acceptance as the first full member of the Magnum photographic agency, inception, research and development of the project including artistic considerations and technical processes, it’s exhibition in Bruge as part of the Magnum exhibition ‘The First World War Now’ and the interpretation of some of the images. This photographic series is based on the Ballarat Avenue of Honour, one of the earliest and longest commemorative plantings in Australia, made to honour the service of each man or woman from Ballarat who enlisted in the Australian Imperial Forces during the First World War.
