Gardiner, Sydney Nathaniel (Private, b. 1883 - d. ?)
Collection relating to the First World War service of 3617 Private Sydney Nathaniel Gardiner, 10th Light Horse Regiment, Middle East and Colombo, 1917-1919. Collection consists of forty three letters written between Gardiner, his wife, daughters, and parents, describing his service, daily activities and living conditions, the cultures and lifestyles of locals where he is posted, and his sentiments towards his family. Also included are two souvenirs, a handwritten poem titled 'Riding through the Lebanon', a page of notes and bible verses. A 36 page hand written document titled 'Historical Sites in Central Palestine' authored by Gardiner, describes important landmarks, towns and regions in Palestine including their mentions in Bible verses, physical location and a basic history of each place.
