Land Rover Surveillance Reconnaissance Vehicle (SRV): 2nd Commando Regiment, Australian Army
Truck, Surveillance Reconnaissance (SRV) Special Forces (SF) Light 4x4 Land Rover. ARN 202-089 NSN 66-152-1648, Manufacturer's VIN 811943. Six smoke grenade dischargers fitted in front of radiator. Short snorkel on right hand side of engine. A Isuzu 4BDI engine is fitted to the vehicle. Winch fitted above front bumper. Brackets for pioneer tools mounted on bonnet. No tools fitted to vehicle as part of the Complete Equipment Schedule (CES). Mounting holes present on front bumper for small IR lights (missing). Wire mesh cages fitted to both sides of load carrying compartment. Radio aerial, which would have been mounted on the front right mudguard, is missing. Platt Ring mount for a .50 calibre M2HB-QCB/Mk19 Automatic Grenade Launcher is fitted onto a tubular roll-over bar structure attached over the cargo bay.
This particular vehicle is distinguished from most similar vehicles in that its bull bar terminates just after the front tyre, rather than continuing on underneath the side door and branching up to the load carrying area.
Two tone brown and sand camouflage applied over the body of the vehicle. The spare tyres and the front nearside wheel hubs are all coated in a sand finish. The remaining wheel hubs are painted in factory finish green. A self adhesive sticker placed between the two seats states that as at 26/5/2014 the vehicle was unserviceable, due to a cracked chassis.
The windscreen is painted on its exterior outwards facing surface in conventional Australian Army three-tone camouflage. A large vertical crack runs down the left hand pane, while an impact has shattered a small portion of the right hand pane. The windscreen is evidently sourced from another vehicle - it bears an adhesive 'serviceable' sticker which states that it is from 4RAR, and that its ARN was 202 121.
This vehicle was one of 55 SRVs manufactured or converted under Project Bushranger. This vehicle saw operational service in Afghanistan from 8 October 2008 to 9 November 2009.
