Milne, John Wilson (Corporal, b.1907 - d.?)
Collection relating to the Second World War service of NX78899 Corporal John Wilson Milne, 2/7 Australian Commando Squadron, New Guinea, 1944-1945.
Collection consists of a hand-drawn, coloured commemorative map of New Guinea entitled "Aitape - Wewak, with 2/7 Aust Commando Sqn Oct 44 - Aug 45", written above the unit insignia. Drawn on starched white cloth, the bottom left of corner of the map contains a vignette of a landing craft on a beach with palm trees with a cloud and birds in the background. Above the landing craft is a "Roll of Honour" listing the six members of the unit that were killed in action during this mission. On the opposite corner is another vignette in the form of a role listing the Allied and enemy killed, wounded and prisoners.
The map is accompanied by a cylindrical red cardboard storage tube that appears to be contemporary to the map.
