Description

Studio portrait of Lieutenant Hautrive, of Chatswood, NSW, in the uniform of the 18th Infantry Regiment, a militia unit. According to the verso, he went to Victoria to enlist as a private in the AIF. 7244 Corporal Marceau Norbert Francois (Frank) Hautrive, was posted to the 23rd Battalion. Born near Liverpool, NSW, Frank Hautrive enlisted on 8 November 1916. After a period of training, Hautrive embarked from Melbourne on HMAT Ballarat with the 23rd Battalion on 19 February 1917. Arriving in France, he was temporarily promoted to Acting Corporal before reverting to rank of Private after he was wounded. Private Hautrive was killed in action near Ypres, Belgium on 9 October 1917.
