AMERICAN TROOPS OF 2ND BATTALION, 128TH UNITED STATES, INFANTRY EMBARKING ON LUGGERS BOUND PONGANI DURING THE PRELIMINARY ALLIED MOVEMENT ON THE JAPANESE HELD BUNA-GONA BEACH-HEAD. THEIR PLANNED MARCH FROM WANIGELA TO PONGANI ACROSS THE NECK OF CAPE NELSON PENINSULA HAD BEEN CALLED OFF BECAUSE OF THE BAD CONDITION OF THE WANIGELA-TOTORE TRACK.
