Description
The RAN 'River' class destroyer flotilla at anchor in the harbour, below Defisa Castle. Left to right: HMAS Parramatta, Yarra, Huon, Swan, Warrego and a British Royal Navy destroyer. Along with HMAS Torrens (not shown), the destroyers were based in Brindisi from August 1917 to October 1918. They provided much needed reinforcements for the British Navy's Adriatic patrol, which focused solely on finding enemy warships. (Do not use. Prefer P1557/01, a better image.)
