Associated with the Second World War service of William Jacobs. Jacobs had earlier served in the First World War, enlisting in the AIF in 1916, at the age of nineteen. Allocated the service number, 2581 Private William Jacobs embarked with the 4th reinforcements of 3 Pioneer Battalion on 21 October 1916 from Melbourne aboard HMAT Port Melbourne. He arrived at Devonport, England on 28 December 1916. After two months training in England Jacobs travelled to France in SS Golden Eagle, where he joined 3 Pioneer Battalion. In June 1919 he was promoted to temporary corporal. On 6 September 1919 Jacobs left England to return home on board HMAT Euripides, arriving in Melbourne on 20 October. Jacobs enlisted in the Citizen's Military Force during the Second World War, and was assigned the service number V10918. He served in Australia only. No further information is available about his rank, unit or service during this period.
