Singapore, Straits Settlements. 1945-09-05. Troops of the Madras Regiment, 5th Indian Division supervising Japanese Prisoners of War as they remove a (captured likely in 1942 during the Fall of Singapore) Canadian Military Pattern (CMP) truck from Hill Street. In the background on the left can be seen the historic and ornate Stamford House built in 1904 at the junction of Stamford Road and Hill Street. During the Japanese occupation of 1942 to 1945 it was operated as a hotel for the occupiers.
