Landmine Type 1a (Tellermine)
Description
The Type 1a Landmine was the standard German landmine at the beginning of the Second World War. The mine consists of a flat, circular bottom plate, a steel dome-shaped body which contains the explosive charge, an aluminium retaining ring into which a rubber sealing ring is assembled and a slightly dome shaped cast aluminium top. A formed steel wire carry handle is attached to the side wall by welded steel straps. The mine is painted overall olive drab. The mine is normally charged with pressed TNT. Manufacturer markings include code dbk 1941(fuze), f.w. 157 1939 (casing) waffenamtinspection stamp (waa) bureau 560.
