History / Summary

The .450 inch Martini-Henry Ball cartridges were used in the .450 in. Martini-Henry single shot rifles and carbines which were adopted by the British Army in 1871 and became the standard small arms on issue throughout the British Empire. Martini-Henry rifles and carbines were issued to Australian Colonial military units, militia, and police, and were also used for commercial and sporting activities.
