Description
Kanchanaburi, Thailand. 1944. Kanchanaburi (Kanburi) is fifty kilometres north of Nong Pladuk (also known as Non Pladuk), or 364 kilometres south of Thanbyuzayat. Australian and Dutch prisoners of war gathered in front of attap huts in the POW camp (commonly called Kanburi by the Australians) for a rare outdoor concert. Many prisoners were brought here from Burma after the Burma-Thailand railway was completed. Several, aware that their photograph is being taken secretly, are looking at the camera, aware of the risk to them and the photographer if film or camera were discovered by the Japanese.
