Tamarkan, Thailand. 1944. Tamarkan camp was located fifty five kilometres north of Nong Pladuk (also known as Non Pladuk), or 359 kilometres south of Thanbyuzayat. The village of Kanchanaburi (Kanburi) is five kilometres south of Tamarkan. Prisoners of war on their sleeping platforms in an attap long hut in the POW camp (commonly called Kanburi by the Australians). Each man had thirty inches of bed space. Many prisoners were brought here from Burma by the Japanese after the Burma-Thailand railway was completed.
