Description

Beaufort crew of No. 100 Squadron RAAF which took part in a raid on Gasmata, Dutch New Guinea, and returned safely despite anti-aircraft (ack ack) damage severing the elevator control of their aircraft. Left to right: 416085 Sergeant (later Flight Sergeant [Flt Sgt]) James Albert Sugg, Adelaide, SA; 407144 Flying Officer (later Flight Lieutenant [Flt Lt]) Roy Herbert Woollacott, Adelaide, SA; 409956 Sgt (later Warrant Officer) Reginald William Stolz, Benalla, Vic; 408311 Sgt (later Flt Sgt) Harley Joseph Williams, Launceston, Tas. Flt Lt Woollacott, Flt Sgts Sugg and Williams were all lost on operations when their Beaufort bomber (A9-374) was shot down on a raid over Gasmata on 5 September 1943.
