YORKSHIRE, ENGLAND. C. 1944-09. A HALIFAX (MARK III) Z5-E BOMBER AIRCRAFT OF NO. 462 SQUADRON RAAF, BASED AT RAF STATION DRIFFIELD, IN FLIGHT OVER ENGLISH FARMLAND. SUPERFICIALLY THE LANCASTER AND THE HALIFAX WERE ALIKE, THE HALIFAX MARK III HAD BRISTOL HERCULES RADIAL ENGINES INSTEAD OF ROLLS ROYCE MERLINS; A FOUR GUN MID-UPPER TURRET INSTEAD OF A TWO GUN; AND THE HALIFAX DID NOT CARRY A NOSE TURRET. IN ALL-ROUND PERFORMANCE THE LANCASTER WAS SUPERIOR TO THE HALIFAX.
