La tranchee (the trench), from the series 'Huit illustrations de guerre'
Description
Six soldiers walk through a trench; only their helmets are visible. Another version, with the body of the first soldier visible, appeared in 'Les croix de bois', facing page 200 (Liore and Cailler), cat. no. 9. From and edition of 50 on van Gelde paper, out of a total edition of 107 (of which 8 were printed on ancient Japan trial proofs, all signed by the artist), printed by A and M Vernant, Paris for Henri M Petiet 1926.
