Owen Mk 1 Bayonet and Scabbard
Description
Bayonet for Owen Sub Machine Gun. Fixed by a 17 mm muzzle ring and mortise slot with locking bolt which fix over the muzzle and sword bar. The scabbard is a leather shortened Pattern 1907 with sheet steel locket and chape secured by wire lace. Single edged, deeply fullered on both sides. Markings: 'X, MA 53'.
History / Summary
The Owen submachine gun bayonet was issued with the Owen submachine gun to Australian Army units during the Second World War, Korea and early in the Vietnam conflict.
