Description

Imperial German Artillery Officer's sword and scabbard. The heavy gilt brass hilt is a P stirrup type with a lions head backstrap pommel, having red glass eyes and has crossed cannon on the front langet. The grips are black bone bound with gilt brass wire. The slightly curved pipe back blade has a blued presentation banner on the right side with Dem scheidenden kameraden Major Witter die Offiziere des Feld Artillerie Regiments Graf Waldersee 1890 - 1909. The left side is an etched floral and trophy of arms design. The ricasso has the trade mark of a kings head and a knights head. The steel scabbard is painted black and has two bands with the top one having a loose strap ring attached.

This sword was a presentation gift to Major Witter from his fellow officers of the Graf Waldersee Field Artillery Regiments.
