Arabian Shamshir Sword and Scabbard
Description
Arabian shamshir sword and scabbard. The hilt has a straight steel crossguard with round button ends and double langets. The grips are steel rivetted to the tang and the pommel is a curved bulbous design. The curved blade has a broad fuller to each side and has a clipped back, doubled edged point. The scabbard is steel with the remains of a black leather and camel skin cover. There is a steel band with two loose rings at 210 mm from the throat and a shoulder strap that is stiched with string and attached just above the band.
History / Summary
This sword is of the stye carried by Arabian tribesmen during the First World War. The blade and scabbard could possibly have been made from a British Pattern 1796 light cavalry sabre.
