Description

Russian Pattern 1881 Cossack Trooper's sword and scabbard. The hilt has a brass ferrule and a pommel in the shape of a birds beak with a hole for a wrist strap. The wooden grips have diagonal grooves. The curved blade has a wide fuller to each side to within 220 mm of the double edged point. The ricasso is stamped on the left with an arsenal mark and 1898. The right side has III (twice) and 5. The black leather scabbard has a brass chape and locket with a slot for a belt strap. It is missing a brass band that would have had a loose ring attached for the second belt strap.
