Description
British Pattern 1856 pioneer sword. The hilt is all brass with a stirrup type guard which is stamped 6 over 1901 V I.HTS over 2 on the inner crossguard. The grip with horizontal rings and is fitted to the tang with four rivets. The straight saw backed blade has a spear point and is stamped 8/99 over WILKINSON LONDON on the ricasso.

This type of sword was issued to British Pioneers in 1856 and was declared obsolete in 1904.
