Description

British Pattern 1804 Cutlass. The black painted hilt has a sheet steel guard in the form of two discs and a cast iron ribbed grip. The straight flat blade is marked with a crown over GR on the left side. The black leather scabbard has a brass chape and a long brass frog stud near the throat that has the front part of the frog attached.

History / Summary

This type of cutlass was issued to the Royal Navy during the early part of the 19th Century and would have been standard equipment on a British ship of the line guarding the colonial empire.
