Description

Pattern 1845 Infantry Officer's Sword and scabbard. The hilt is a brass half basket 1822 Pattern with the badge of New South Wales and the fishskin grip is bound with brass wire. The blade is broken in half and etched with a floral pattern. The steel scabbard has two loose rings on fixed bands at 2.5 and 10.5 inches from the throat.

History / Summary

This type of sword was worn by the majority of infantry officers serving with the New South Wales military forces. The blade is reputed to have been broken in action, leaving 19 1/2" of a 32" blade.
