British Pattern 1897 Infantry Officers Sword and Scabbard : Indian Army
Description
British Pattern 1897 Infantry Officer Sword. The hilt has a three quarter 'scroll' pattern pierced sheet steel guard with the GRI royal cypher, stamped HKN on the inside and a wire bound fishskin grip. There is a brown leather sword knot attached to the guard. The straight blade is plain with a single fuller on each side for half of the length. The ricasso is stamped with MOLE BIRM, an arrow and ISD on the left and an arrow over I over 191 on the right. The brown leather covered wooden scabbard has a metal chape and locket. The guard and scabbard mounts would originally have been nickel plated.
