Imperial German Officer's Sword and Scabbard : Westphalia No 4 Cuirassier Regiment
Imperial German Officer's presentation sword and scabbard of the 4th Westphalia Cuirassier Regiment. The hilt is a brass half basket, three bar guard with a fishskin grip bound with brass wire. The straight blade has a double fuller on each side to within 90 mm of the spear point and etched on both sides with a floral pattern for half of the length from the ricasso which is stamped with a trade mark of a Z within a shield. The right side has a blued banner with Berger Kurassier Regt. von Dreisen (Westf.) No4 and on the left a blued panel with troop of cavalry and fenced wood scene. The blued steel scabbard has a single fixed ring on a band 50 mm from the throat. Two small fixing screws for the throat are missing.
This sword would have been a pesentation item to an officer of the 4th Westphalia Cuirassier Regiment.
