Indian Pattern 1912 Cavalry Officer's Sword and Scabbard : Indian Army
Indian Pattern 1912 Cavalry Officer's sword and scabbard. The hilt has a nickel plated steel bowl guard decorated on the outside with a scroll design incorporating a crown over GRI in a shield and has a gold sword knot attached to the slot near the pommel. The black fishskin grip is bound with german silver wire. The straight blade has a single fuller to each side to within eight inches of the spear point and the back edge is stamped '08. The right ricasso is stamped with a broad arrow over EFD over a proof mark and X. The left ricasso has another proof mark and 8'16. The steel scabbard, marked with broad arrow over EFD and '16 on the bck edge, has two fixed saddle strap rings on each side of the locket.
The Indian Pattern 1912 officer's sword differs a little from the British pattern by having the grip slightly smaller and the pommel decorated with a floral pattern. Also, the blades are usually the trooper 1908 Pattern without any etching or engraving.
