Description

This is one of a series of works by the sculptor Gay Hawkes, called 'Rushing off to the Gulf', dealing with Australia's willingness to support greater powers in their conflicts. It depicts 'Saddam Hussein on a rhinoceros' during the First Gulf War, as a threatening aggressor. Gay Hawkes (b.1942) is a sculptor and wood artist. Her unique sculpture is known for its highly imaginative and quirky qualities, using utilitarian objects and wood found in the bush and driftwood from the beaches of her native Tasmania.
