Bennett, Arthur Campbell (Major)
Description
Memoirs titled "The Rough Infantry : Tales of World War II" relating to Major Bennett's enlistment in 1939, training at Puckapunyal and later Officer Training School Liverpool; training and social activities in Palestine and Egypt, active service against the Italians at Tobruk and Barce, retreat from Greece, duties in Syria, defence of Ceylon and return to Australia. The latter part of the account deals in detail with the campaigns in New Guinea, particularly in the Wau area. The memoirs detail the nature of jungle warfare, illness, supply problems and attitudes toward the Japanese enemy.
