Souvenir pennant : 3rd Victory Loan, 1945
Triangular dark green felt souvenir pennant, with ties for suspension on the hoist. Screen printed in yellow, white, green, red and brown with a band of three stars across the top left corner, the Commonwealth coat of arms, and 'THIRD VICTORY [the 'V' has wings] LOAN MARCH-APRIL 1945'. '75 O.B.U.' is printed on a red scroll'.
The Third Victory Loan ran from March to July 1945, aiming to raise 100,000,000 pounds for the war effort from small investors. Investors were offered an interest rate of 3 3/4 percent, with the loan maturing between 1950 and 1961. Despite appeals to patriotism and self-sacrifice the loan failed to reach its target, although 422,714 people invested in it. People or small groups investing a certain amount received recognition in the form of these pennants. Staff from 75 Operational Base Unit, RAAF were given this pennant in recognition of the money they had raised.
