Description
Grazzanise, Italy. Sherman M4A2 of the 4th County of London Yeomanry fording the river Volturno at Grazzanise. The bridge built by the Royal Engineers over the Vulturno at Grazzanise could not support the weight of heavy tanks. The British tank formations found a sport where the water was no more than 6 feet (1.8 meters) deep and with the aid of a bulldozer to haul them up the opposite bank, they forded the river. Taken by Sgt Mott, No. 2 Army Film and Photo Section, Army Film and Photographic Unit. (BRITISH ADMIRALTY PHOTOGRAPH, BNA7858).
