Studio portrait of 823 Francis Allan Bain, 39th Battalion of Fitzroy, Vic formerley of Invercargill, NZ. A brush maker prior to his enlistment on 6 February 1916 he embarked from Melbourne on board HMAT Ascanius on 27 May 1916. The son of Alexander and Ellen Bain, of Fitzroy, Vic he died of wounds on 30 April 1917, aged 21 years and is memorialised at France 297 Trois-Arbres Cemetery Steenwerck.
