Cranitch, Charles Matthew (Lieutenant)
Description
Letters to his sister, Kathleen, describe departure from Australia, sea voyage to Egypt via Colombo, arrival at Tel-el-Kibir where exercises begin with 5 Training Battalion. Cranitch transfers to a machine gun battalion at Zeitoun where he is instructed in the use of Lewis guns, and in May departs for France, the final letter describing submarine evasion tactics crossing the Mediterranean. Also includes newspaper article from The Parkes Champion Post, 25 April 1990, with transcription of Lt Cranitch's letter from 1916.
