Description
Transcript of diary kept by Private Johnston during his war service 1914-1916. It was sent home to his parents in 1916 with another soldier who was being invalided to Australia. Diary records voyage on troopship, time in Egypt, training with light horse, drills, mail received, on Gallipoli (describes armistice to bury dead) the loss of battleship "Triumph", Turkish activities, evacuation sick to hospital on Malta, leave in Blighty and Ireland, courts martial. Include poem, "Me pal that stayed at home."
