Studio portrait of 3428 Driver Walter Henry Edwin Moore, 12th Machine Gun Company from Prahran East, Melbourne, Victoria. A 24 year old blacksmith prior to enlisting on 12 July 1915, he embarked for overseas with the 11th Reinforcements of the 14th Battalion from Melbourne on 11 October 1915 aboard HMAT Nestor. Shortly after arriving in Egypt, he transferred to the 12th Machine Gun Company and deployed with them to the Western Front. He was promoted to Lance Corporal (L Cpl) on 31 October 1918 and later died of pneumonia in the Sutton Veny Hospital, England on 6 February 1919. L Cpl Moore is buried in the Sutton Veny (St John) Churchyard, Wiltshire, England.
