VUNG TAU, VIETNAM. 1969-12. NURSING SISTERS, FROM LEFT, LIEUTENANT (LT) ANN HALL OF KYOGLE, NSW, LT RUTH PAGE OF PARRAMATTA, NSW, AND LT DIANE LAWRENCE OF KILLARA, NSW, WITH AN ANCIENT VIVID PINK CITROEN SEDAN PARKED IN FRONT OF THE SIGN, '1ALSG SURF LIFESAVING CLUB'. THE CAR, SPORTING HIPPIE FLOWERS AND THREE BULLET HOLES IN THE REAR WINDSCREEN, WAS CAPTURED IN THE YEAR 1968 FROM THE VIET CONG BY NEW ZEALANDERS OF "VICTOR" COMPANY, 4RAR /NZ (ANZAC) (THE ANZAC BATTALION COMPRISING 4TH BATTALION, THE ROYAL AUSTRALIAN REGIMENT AND A COMPONENT FROM THE 1ST BATTALION, ROYAL NEW ZEALAND INFANTRY REGIMENT). AFTER REPAIRS AND A COAT OF PAINT AT THE 102ND FIELD WORKSHOPS, VUNG TAU, THE "NEW" CAR WAS JOINTLY PRESENTED BY ITS CAPTORS AND REPAIRERS TO THE FIFTEEN ANZAC SISTERS OF THE 1ST AUSTRALIAN FIELD HOSPITAL AT VUNG TAU. THE CAR HAS SPENT MOST OF THE TIME TRANSPORTING THE WOMEN BETWEEN THE HOSPITAL AND BEACH.
