Mosin Nagant M1891 Dragoon Rifle
Mosin Nagant M1891 Dragoon bolt action rifle. The hexagonal action is stamped on the top with a double headed eagle, Cyrillic letters 1899 and the serial number. It has a full wood stock with a finger groove to each side of the fore arm, slots for sling swivel straps and a top hand guard (damaged). The rifle is missing the cleaning rod.
The dragoon model is identical to the M1891 rifle except shorter. The Mosin Nagant rifle was the first small calibre high velocity weapon adopted by the Russian Army, and also the standard military rifle until replaced by the AK series of assault rifles in the late 1940's. The rifle was designed by Captain S I Mosin of the Imperial Artillery and adopted in 1891. It saw extensive service with the Soviet armed forces in both world wars, Korea and Vietnam and also with other communist forces around the world.
