Description
Pattern 1853 Enfield Rifle, 1st Model. Lock marked Crown over VR and 1854 over Enfield. Butt tang engraved MU29. The barrel is held into the stock by three split bands that are clamped by screws. It is complete with sling swivels and ramrod, which is marked arrow WD and engraved 505.
History / Summary
The 3rd Model Enfield was widely used by the Military Forces of the Australian Colonies. The markings indicate that this rifle was used by the Manchester Unity Volunteer Rifle Corps in Tasmania.
