Description

The Colt M1911A1 is a recoil operated, locked breech, single action semi automatic pistol. The frame has a mounted safety that locks the hammer and the slide. The hammer could be locked either in the cocked or lowered position allowing the gun to be carried in "cocked and locked" state with safety on, hammer cocked and round chambered. An additional automatic safety is incorporated into the rear of the grip and locks the action when the gun is not held in the hand properly. The barrel and slide are interlocked via massive lugs on the upper part of the barrel just ahead of the chamber. After a shot is fired the barrel and the slide go back a short distance and the rear part of the barrel is lowered by a tilting link which unlocks the barrel slide. The slide goes all the way back extracting and ejecting the spent cartridge case and chambering a new round on the way forward. When the magazine is empty, the magazine follower activates a stop that locks the slide in the open position. The gun is fed from the single row, seven round detachable box magazine. The magazine release button is located on the left side of the frame, just behind the trigger guard. Right side of frame stamped UNITED STATES PROPERTY M1911A1 US ARMY and the serial number with SA above the trigger guard. Left side REMMINGTON RAND INC SYRACUSE. NY.U.S.A. Brown plastic checkered grips held to the frame with two screw bolts, rear grip safety and a fixed lanyard loop on the butt. Complete with a magazine.
