Experimental Short Magazine Lee-Enfield No 1 Mk III* Rifle
Description
Lee-Enfield No I Mk III* experimental shortened and lightened rifle. Receiver marked MA LITHGOW S.M.L.E. III* 1944. Butt stamped MA 1944. The rifle has been shortened in the fore-end and barrel from the standard SMLE rifle by about five inches. It has a one piece wood top handguard and a fixed rear sight on the bridge charger guide.

One hundred of these experimental rifles were produced at the Lithgow factory in 1944 for trials purposes and this is number 7.
