Ede, William John (Lance Corporal, b. 1922 - d. ?)
Collection relating to the Second World War service of NX126516 Lance Corporal William John Ede, 104 Casualty Clearing Station, New Guinea, 1942-1946. Collection consists of two small diaries handwritten by Ede covering the period 1942-1945; 10 letters to Ede written by 436216 Sgt David James Walter RAAF; one letter to Ede written by NX85818 Trooper Walter Frank Willis Watton and one letter to Ede written by NX168513 Sgt Herbert Boles Suttie. The diaries detail names, addresses and phone numbers; bible quotes; and very basic notes about daily activities or points of interest. Letters from Sgt Walter are written from the United Kingdom and detail places he visited on leave, the types of planes he was flying, bombings in London, the landscape of the RAF base he is stationed at and his attendence at numerous Christian prayer meetings and services. The letter from Tpr Watton details shortages of basic supplies in the jungle and also speaks to the Christian spirituality and fellowship he has experienced. The letter from Sgt Suttie, written in Rabaul, describes the town and it's Chinatown precinct, Japanese prisoners and a Christian gathering he attended.
