Owen Mk 2/3 Sub-machine Gun : Australian Army
Owen Mk 2/3 Sub-machine Gun. The Right side is stamped MK 2/3 OWEN 9MM. MKII(crossed out) 43 LYSAGHT AUSTRALIA on the top rail and PATENTED 22.7.41 - and the serial number on the bottom rail. The serial number is also stamped on the top of the receiver over 11/50/F. This weapon is painted all over (including the magazine) in a khaki/green camouflage colour except for the butt which is varnished wood. The detachable butt has plain sides and a steel butt trap. A number 11 is painted in white on the underside of the butt and number 18 in yellow paint on the right side of the fore grip. This gun was refurbished in November 1950 at the Lithgow Small Arms Factory and has a new Mk 3 reinforced barrel with a bayonet lug as well as an external rotating sleeve safety device at the rear of the action.
