MG3 Machine Gun. The right hand side of the action body is marked MG3, the serial number and 10/1976. Pressed metal receiver and fluted barrel jacket with a cone shaped muzzle flash suppressor. Folding front post and adjustable leaf rear sight. Black plastic butt and pistol grip. Overall metal parts parkerised black.
History / Summary
This type of machine gun is employed as a coaxial and turret roof mounted anti-aircraft gun by the Royal Australian Armoured Corps on AS1 Leopard tanks.The MG3 is basically a rebarreled version of the World War Two German MG42 machine gun.
