Description
Records relating to the Finschhafen campaign, mostly diaries kept in 1943 by companies within the Papuan Infantry Battalion. A variety of formats, most give weekly reports, movements, casualties, weather, tactical notes, letters received and draft replies. Item (1) and (2) for Battalion Headquarters (3) and (4) B Company (1943-1945) (5) and (6) C Company. Item (7) two notebooks kept by Major Oliver who was attached to 9th Australian Division during early stages of the Finschhafen campaign. They include messages, sitreps and lesson notes. Also a hand written essay by Sgt E L Pye on Lae and Finschhafen.
