Medallion : Army Football Championship, France 1918
Silver medallion with a ring clasp at the top. The obverse of the medallion depicts in relief a boar's head and the words 'FRANCE 1918'. surrounded by a wreath. The reverse has the words 'ARMY FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP' around the outside. The centre remains blank. The medallion is stored in a red presentation box with a hinged back and clasp. The top of the box is stamped in gold with the boar's head and 'FRANCE 1918'. The inside of the box is stamped with the maker's details.
The history of this football medallion is not known. The Boar's Head is the symbol of the British Fourth Army. It was selected by the Commanding Officer, Sir Henry Rawlinson, in memory of the sporting hunt he had taken part in during leave in the south of France in Spring 1917.
