History / Summary
This compass was used by Captain Martin Clemens, Royal Australian Navy Volunteer Reserve, who served as a Coast Watcher on occupied Guadalcanal during the Second World War. The compass was found after the war by a former Solomon Island scout and it was passed onto the Solomon Islands Wartime Comrades Association in 1981. The compass was later given to a representative of the Royal Australian Navy who donated it to the Australian War Memorial.
