Mosin Nagant 1891 Rifle : Turkish Army
Description
Mosin Nagant Model 1891 bolt action rifle. The octagonal breech is stamped with an Imperial Russian eagle over a Cyrillic inscription and the rear sight is calibrated in Turkish Arabic numerals on the left side. It has a one piece wooden stock with a single finger grove on each side and a forward top hand guard. The fore end and butt have slots for sling swivel straps. Fitted with a muzzle sleeve incorporating a bayonet bar on the right side. The magazine is fixed and has a hinged base plate. Missing the cleaning rod and front sling swivel.
History / Summary
Provenance unknown but a considerable number of these rifles were captured during the First World War and reissued to Turkish troops. This example has the later 1908 type rear sight.
