Description
Recovering a B Squadron, 3rd Cavalry Regiment, mine damaged M113 Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC). Note the T50 turret fitted with twin .30 calibre machine guns. This vehicle (ARN 134282) was destroyed by an (estimated) 80-pound mine at 11:57 on 24 June 1969, at LOC YS478552. The crew, Lance Corporal K I Dewar, Crew Commander of c/s 22A, and Trooper R G Young, driver, c/s 22A, were both killed in the incident. The vehicle 'remains' were returned to Australia aboard Jeparit voyage 24 south, and stripped.
